Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to use SciReader?
Not for reading and managing your library. Importing PDFs, organizing collections, highlighting, writing Markdown notes, and on-device outline and citation parsing all work offline without signing in. Sign in with a free account to claim your one-time welcome credits for the AI assistant, or subscribe for monthly credits and cloud sync.
How do credits work, and what consumes them?
Credits are used only when you ask the AI assistant a question, run a one-command summary, or have the assistant read a figure, table, or equation. The credit cost depends on the model you select and the amount of context read. Local PDF reading, layout detection, outline generation, and reference lookup cost zero credits.
When do monthly credits reset, and do unused credits roll over?
Your monthly credit allowance resets at the start of each billing cycle and does not roll over to the next month. If you run out of credits before your next reset, you can purchase non-expiring top-up credit packs directly inside the app.
Are any AI models or features locked behind higher plans?
No. Every plan—including Free with welcome credits—gives you access to all available AI models, figure and table reading, @ multi-paper questions, and one-command document generation. Higher plans simply provide more monthly credits and larger cloud sync storage.
How do I manage, switch, or cancel my subscription?
You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription anytime from your account settings inside the SciReader app. After canceling, your subscription stays active through the end of the current billing period, and your local library, PDFs, and notes remain on your device forever.
What is the refund policy?
New subscriptions are eligible for a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Unused top-up credit packs are also refundable within 14 days of purchase; credits that have already been spent are non-refundable. See our refund policy page for full details.
